Interesting facts

The resin of this essential oil is sustainably harvested from Myroxylon balsamum var. pereirae trees native to Central America, from the area known as the Balsam Coast where El Salvador meets the Pacific Ocean. Its name “Balsam of Peru” is somewhat misleading. In the past, it was transported by land from El Salvador to the ports of Peru, from where it was shipped further. This created a misconception about its origin. It was used as incense by the Mayans and plays an important role in Native American culture.
