Mountain savory is a well-known culinary herb that has been used for centuries. The penetrating aroma of its essential oil strengthens and warms both the respiratory and nervous systems. Suitable for use in a diffuser for colds and coughs. On the emotional side, it releases excessive self-control, releases nervous tension and relaxes. Mountain savory (Satureja montana) is a perennial flowering plant from the Lamiaceae family. It comes from the Mediterranean and the Iberian Peninsula. It is commonly found in the wild and in other parts of the world. It is traditionally used both in cooking and in folk medicine, especially for flatulence and intestinal discomfort.
Its botanical name satureja means “grass of the satyrs” , i.e. mythical creatures half man and half goat. Because of its pungency, it was popular in the cuisine of the ancient Romans and was even considered an aphrodisiac. Thanks to monastic activity, in the 9th century, got to Central Europe.
