This floral water is distilled from the beautiful flowers of the white magnolia, or Michelia AlbaIt is also called white sandalwood or white champaca (derived from the Indonesian  White Cempaka). In Sanskrit it is called Nag Champa,  according to the Indian god Nagara, because its petals resemble a snake's head. Magnolia symbolizes reincarnation, eternal life and the victory of joy over ego..

In Taiwan, the flowers are plucked from the trees before they open and the bunches are strung on wire to be sold on the roadside to truck drivers and taxi drivers. The flowers remain fragrant for several days before fading.
