Palmarosa, a wild herb growing up to 3 m tall, is a relative of lemongrass and is often referred to as Indian geranium. Its sweet, floral scent makes it a popular ingredient in perfumes. This sweet scent can even attract bees to pollinate the flowers.
This oil has been distilled since the 18th century and as “Indian geranium oil” was imported via Bombay to Constantinople and then to Bulgaria, where it was used as a fake rose oil. It is still a popular ingredient in soaps and cosmetics today.
