Geranium, or pelargonium, derives its name from  from the Greek word pelargos , i.e. stork, because its fruit resembles a stork’s beak in shape. The origins of geranium oil distillation date back to the first half of the 19th century. century and since then it has been widely used in  perfumery, especially as a substitute for luxury rose oil .
