Frankincense is one of the sacred biblical oils symbolizing contemplation and spiritual liberation. Aromatherapist and phytotherapist Aneta Jirchářová will tell you about this mystical plant (Boswellia Carterii), its resin, essential oil and its hydrolate.
How it smells
“Frankincense hydrosol, show me what’s in you!”, I say to myself and test the frankincense mist on my skin. And saffron! I didn’t expect this. The smell is musky, smoky earthy. It reminds me a lot of the smell of vetiver. Do you have anything in common?
What is frankincense
Frankincense is a tall tree whose trunk exudes a whitish, fragrant resin that hardens and darkens to an amber color in the air. This is then used for smoking or for distillation. Frankincense has always been associated in all cultures and religions for spiritual ceremonies. It helps calm our breath and opens our mind, which it prepares for meditation. In Ayurvedic medicine, it is used for everything hardened, that is, it dissolves everything that causes us stiffness on a mental level. It helps us to be flexible and more accepting of reality.
Mystical plant
This mystical plant hides great wisdom, and once we start working with farnkincense, it likes to impart that wisdom to us. He’s a gentleman in a top hat with a walking stick. As soon as it appears in the room, it thoroughly cleanses the space of negative energy. It’s a friend for kids who fight bugs in closets and under the bed.
Frankincense in aromatherapy
Once a client came to me and said: “I have a problem connecting with others, I can’t communicate with them and when I have to address them, I’m stiff and unable to say anything.” I immediately chose frankincense. I covered the client from head to toe in the scent of incense. She always had an inhalation stick with incense ready in her pocket, and after a week she happily confided in me with positive results. “Thank you, thank you, thank you,” she said to me, and I said: “Don’t thank me, it was always frankincense with you.” She later admitted to me that she was afraid to approach a colleague at work with whom she had a crush.
Hydrosol frankincense
From the beginning, the smell of the hydrosolt was offensive to me. I didn’t believe I could connect to him. But if frankincense helps connect with others, it has playfully connected with me and I don’t really find it so obnoxious and annoying anymore. Or was it me? Was there something inside of me that was suffocating me and didn’t want to move on? After all, the smell is so beautiful and strong. Was there something in me that immediately dissolved the frankincense and helped clear my mind?I believe so. So incense: Thank you, thank you, thank you.
